Filed in LinuxTags: , , , ,

This is a very general problem for the people who maintains the large websites. The problem comes generally when need to move website it to another server . Even I used to do it manually through phpmyadmin page and then import in my early days. But this method has limitations. If you are looking for some other way to do it quickly then this information is for you .

Requirements : You must have SSH access for the new server , must have PV installed on it. If not then ask your hosting provider to install it for you or you can install it yourself if you have root access.

First copy the DB file from OLD server to new using sftp .

First install pv (Pipe Viewer)  run command

IN CentOS/Fedora

install yum pv

apt-get install pv

Browse to the SQL file and then run the below command (Replace HugeFile with your SQL file name )

 pv HugeFile.mysql.sql.gz | gunzip | mysql -u username -p database

The above command will prompt for DB password . It will start and will show the progress of installation

How to get rid of “You don’t have permission to access / on this server.”

Filed in Joomla, Linux

If you ever work on Joomla you may hit with this error.

You don’t have permission to access / on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

This was one of the error which lot lot of my time to fix and yes annoying too !!

So here are the steps which I kfollowed to fix this and atlast what I did to get rid of it.

Method 1:

I googled many articles to fix this issue and found many discussions but they worked for me .I will mention here and you may try your luck .

Method 1: (Didn’t worked for me) 🙁

  1. Check if .htaccess file has 0755 permission.IfAdd the below code in .htaccess file

<IfModule mod_security.c>
SecFilterEngine Off
SecFilterScanPOST Off

Restart the apache server and check if you have overcome the issue.

Although this trick didnt worked for me.

Method 2: (worked for me) 🙂

I set 0777 permission to all my folder structure .

chmod 777 public_html/ -R

wow it worked.

I know the above trick will work also for you. Its 100% sure. But after that please change the file permissions for your administrator and important folders as you are inviting hackers to hack your site with 777 .
